Prof. C.S. Dey
of NIPER elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India
 Dr.
Chinmoy Sankar Dey, Professor and Head of the Department of Biotechnology,
NIPER, S.A.S. Nagar has been elected as a “Fellow of the National Academy
of Sciences (FNASc.), India”. The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad,
established in 1930, celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, is cultivating and
promoting Science and Technology in India. Recently, Dr. Dey had been
elected as a fellow (FNA) of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA),
New Delhi. He is also a recipient of “Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award” from
CSIR and the “National Bioscience Award” from Department of Biotechnology,
Govt. of India.
Dr. Dey, a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of
Chemical Biology, Kolkata, followed by post-doctoral research training
from the California Institute of Technology, California, and Baylor
College of Medicine, Texas, USA, joined NIPER in September 1994. Along
with a handful of core faculty who were entrusted the responsibility of
establishing NIPER as a center of higher learning, which is currently
being run under the Directorship of Professor. P. RamaRao., Dr. Dey played
a significant role in building up the institute and more importantly the
department of biotechnology. At NIPER, Dr. Dey initiated a strong research
program in understanding the mechanism of the diseases, like insulin
resistant diabetes and microbial drug resistance. Professor Dey has
published more than 50 research papers. He has an US patent and has also
attracted about Rs. 15 million from various funding agencies. In a span of
8 years of research life in NIPER, the achievement of the institute in
general and Professor Dey is a rare distinction. |
